  • InterContinental launched its aggressive growth in the US Western Region with the February opening of InterContinental San Francisco, which joins sister property InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco.
  • Other 2008 openings planned for the Western Region include InterContinental The Clement Monterey in California and InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona.

 

Our history

1946

InterContinental Hotels Corporation founded by PanAmerican World Airlines.

1947

The first property, the Hotel Grande in Belem, Brazil, is inaugurated.

1981

InterContinental Hotels Corporation is sold to UK-based company Grand Metropolitan.

1988

Grand Metropolitan sells InterContinental Hotels Corporation to Japanese based Saison Group.

1998

Bass PLC acquires InterContinental Hotels Corporation.

2001

Prestigious InterContinental Hong Kong purchased for £241 million.

2006

InterContinental celebrates 60 years of history.

2006

6 November – InterContinental Hotels & Resorts simultaneously launch two flagship hotels – InterContinental London Park Lane and InterContinental Boston, US.

2007

InterContinental celebrates opening of its 150th hotel - the InterContinental, Dubai Festival City.

2008

InterContinental opens two new hotels in China in celebration of the 2008 Olympics – InterContinental Beijing Beichen as the closest luxury hotel to the National Olympics Stadium; InterContinental Qingdao within the Olympic Sailing Village.

2009

A first, two new co-branded luxury rooms opens in Okinawa, Japan-ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort and ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort.

InterContinental Fiji Gold Resort & Spa opens as the sole destination resort on Natadola Beach.
