In September 2008, IHG announced the creation of a new timeshare brand, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, a strategic alliance with The Family of Orange Lake Resorts.

Holiday Inn Club Vacations officially launched in December 2008 with the conversion of Orange Lake’s flagship 2,500 villa property in Orlando, Florida. The conversion of the remaining Orange Lake resorts including Ascutney, Vermont (60 villas), Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (68 villas) and Panama City, Florida (18 villas) has now been completed.

  • Holiday Inn announced its NASCAR Busch Series debut as the primary sponsor of the No. 29 Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Chevrolet and driver Jeff Burton.
  • In April 2006 Holiday Inn also signed a three-year sponsorship agreement as the “Official Hotel of Major League Baseball.”

Holiday Inn founded by Kemmons Wilson in Memphis, Tennessee.

1967

Holiday Inn Leiden opens in the Netherlands, the first Holiday Inn to open in EMEA.

1984

Opening of China’s first international brand hotel, the Holiday Inn Lido Beijing.

1988

Bass acquires Holiday Inns International.

1990

Bass acquires the remaining North American Holiday Inn business.

1995

Holiday Inn Worldwide goes live on the internet and becomes the first hotel company to offer direct booking capability.

2004

The first “next-generation Holiday Inn” opens in Gwinnett County, Georgia, US and sets the standard for Holiday Inn properties to come.

2007

Holiday Inn launches the new style in EMEA, offering increased quality and comfort for guests, whilst reducing build costs by 25% and bringing a higher return on investment for owners.

2007 IHG announces plans for a $1bn relaunch of the Holiday Inn brand family.

Holiday Inn launches first global advertising campaign Stay You. Hotel relaunch programme reaches 2,500 hotels.
