In 2006 we commissioned our first stakeholder and issues analysis. This mapped out who our key internal and external stakeholders are and helped us to better understand which Corporate Responsibility (CR) issues are important to them as well as their potential impact on our business and wider communities. We continue to refine this analysis as it still provides direct input into the development of our CR strategy and stakeholder engagement programmes.
During 2008 we developed our approach to CR with our partners. For example, our major new online sustainability tool, Green Engage, has involved our hotel owners, from an early stage.
We also know that many of our key corporate clients have their own CR targets and we want to ensure that we align with their values and help them deliver on their goals.
We have strengthened our links with leading academic institutions such as Harvard and Cornell Universities. These relationships keep us up to date on the very latest thinking in the field of Corporate Responsibility.
We were also the first hotel chain to be selected by the US Department of Energy on its Green Building Initiative which is seeking to set the standard of green buildings in the United States. But there is still much more to do. In 2009, we will also focus our efforts on further understanding the regional and national regulatory context in which we operate.
