Managing Director, South East Asia and Korea
Clarence Tan is Managing Director for South East Asia and Korea, responsible for driving the growth of IHG® and its hotels. Clarence is based in Singapore.
Prior to his appointment in January 2018, Clarence was Senior Vice President New Hotels for Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA), responsible for design, owner relationships and hotel openings. He has also served as Chief Development Officer, AMEA, from 2014 to 2016.
Clarence joined the company in 2004 as Head of Finance for IHG’s Asia Pacific region, and has held several senior leadership roles in finance, operations and development.
He took on the role of Chief Financial Officer and Head of Operations Support for Asia and Australasia in 2009. He also led the regional Operations teams as Chief Executive Officer, IHG-ANA Joint Venture in Japan, overseeing IHG hotels in Japan and Korea in 2011. As Chief Operating Officer, South East Asia and Resorts, he was responsible for the operations and performance of hotels in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, and growing IHG’s pipeline of new hotel openings.
Clarence has more than 16 years of management and consulting experience and has spent most of his career in the accounting and hospitality sectors. He currently sits on the Board of Governors of Republic Polytechnic, Singapore, and chairs the School Advisory Committee for the School of Hospitality. He graduated from Nanyang Technology University, Singapore, in 1992.
