IHG colleagues give back and give thanks

IHG Hotels & Resorts colleagues have taken the opportunity to give back and show thanks as part of the company’s annual Giving for Good month by collectively dedicating over 74,000 volunteering hours to communities, causes and charities that matter to them most.

Positively impacting more than 312,000 people globally, colleagues found inspired and creative ways to make contributions to their local communities, including donating blood, delivering food parcels, and raising funds for local charities. With over 27,000 IHG colleagues participating, engagement in this year’s campaign was double that of last year.

Keith Barr, Chief Executive Officer, IHG Hotels & Resorts, commented: “Giving back to our communities is woven into the fabric of IHG – it’s not only part of our history and our mission to shape the future of responsible travel, but also our purpose to deliver True Hospitality for Good. With hotels and colleagues spanning more than 100 countries, we’re proud to be at the heart of our communities and we recognise the unique opportunity our global reach brings in allowing us to make a positive impact. I’m humbled by the commitment to helping others that our colleagues have shown throughout Giving for Good month – going above and beyond in what are already challenging times to make an invaluable contribution towards our target of improving the lives of 30 million people by 2030.”

Keeping people at the heart of IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow responsible business plans, colleague volunteering hours will contribute towards the company’s target to improve the lives of 30 million people in our communities by 2030. Underpinned by a purpose to deliver True Hospitality for Good, the ambition to positively impact communities globally will also be supported by IHG’s existing charity partnerships and an ongoing commitments to disaster relief and ending food poverty.

With tens of thousands of initiatives having taken place globally, highlights included:

During September, IHG was also proud to give thanks and show recognition to its housekeeping colleagues and the broader hospitality industry as part of International Housekeeping Week. Celebrating the efforts of hotel staff throughout the recovery period, IHG colleagues organised special events in honour of housekeepers and took to social media to share messages of thanks.
