Our communities strategy
We have pledged to improve the lives of 30 million people by 2030, primarily by driving economic and social change through skills training and innovation, supporting our communities when natural disasters strike and collaborating to aid those facing food poverty.
Ensuring we meet our pledge relies on collaboration with our guests, colleagues and owners, as well as strong relationships with NGOs and community organisations, and we seek to team up with leading experts who share our commitment to driving positive change.
Local action and Giving for Good
Our commitment to improve lives is powered by our colleagues, who dedicate their time, skills, and passion to meet social needs in their communities. Activities span the entire year but every September, IHG colleagues participate in Giving for Good month for a focused month of action.

Skills training and Innovation
Launched in 2006, the IHG Academy boosts social mobility by helping individuals build essential workforce skills. In 2024, we refreshed the Academy with three new programmes:
- IHG Discover connects with communities through student workshops, offering insights into hospitality careers.
- Our Skills Builder platform provides over 250 courses and partners to create tailored content.
- IHG Careers Launcher offers structured in-person programmes to help future IHG talent thrive.
Disaster response
Food poverty
We collaborate with smaller food partners in local hotel communities on food security projects, as well as engage in global partnerships to address food security for those in need. Our efforts include a multi-year partnership with Action Against Hunger, one of the largest global NGOs dedicated to combating hunger, alongside the support we provide through our direct food bank partnerships.
