IHG hosts the World's Biggest Bed-Jump to celebrate the World's Biggest Free Nights offer
To mark the launch of IHG's (InterContinental Hotels Group) ‘Biggest Free Nights' offer, 20,000 people are taking part in the biggest bed-jump in history today, bouncing on four of the world's biggest beds. In Shanghai, Paris, London and New York, thousands of people will jump on giant beds over 16 hours, celebrating the 5 million free rooms up for grabs and setting the record for the world's biggest bed-jump. To register for the promotion and see all the action go to www.getafreenight.com/bedjump.
A team of 100 people worked for five weeks to build the 15 by 10 metres (50 by 33 foot) beds, topping them with 30 double mattresses and a huge supersized duvet that could cover 65 regular double-beds. Construction involved:
- Six tons of steel
- 1,000 kilograms of wood
- And more than 200,000 nuts and bolts
Olympic gymnasts will start each bed-jump as they take place, on the same day, across the globe from the east to the west:
- Century Square, Shanghai, China: Jiang Yi Qi, the 2008 Trampoline World Cup, women's synchronized champion will perform
- La Place de la Défense, Paris, France: Marina Ducroux, the 2007 French women's trampoline champion and David Martin, four times French trampoline champion will be jumping
- Covent Garden, London, UK: Jamie Moore and James Higgins from London 2012's Team Great Britain will perform
- Bryant Park, New York, USA: Shawn Johnson, 2008 Olympic women's balance beam gold medallist and individual all-round silver medallist will be jumping
Tom Seddon, IHG's Chief Marketing Officer commented:
"With our Biggest Free Nights Offer, we have 5 million free nights available in over 4,000 hotels across 100 countries and seven brands, including Holiday Inn. To celebrate our offer we're inviting people to come and bounce on our massive beds, to rediscover the fun of bed-jumping and put a big smile on their faces."
