Hotel Indigo expands in Germany

Hotel Indigo Dusseldorf-Victoriaplatz to open in 2013

InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) boutique hotel brand Hotel Indigo continues to grow in Germany, with the signing of Hotel Indigo Düsseldorf-Victoriaplatz following two successful openings in Berlin earlier this year.

Hotel Indigo Düsseldorf-Victoriaplatz will operate under a franchise agreement with LFPI Hotels Management Germany GmbH. The 126 room hotel is a conversion from the Lindner Rhein Residence into a Hotel Indigo, and will open in 2013.

Dusseldorf’s first Hotel Indigo will be located on the famous Kaiserswerther Strasse in the lively and trendy district of Pempelfort, which is known for its bars and restaurants. The city’s major tourist attractions, cultural sites and boutique fashion shopping areas are all within walking distance, and the hotel will be a five minute walk from the Victoriaplatz/Klever Strasse underground station.

IHG’s Development Director for Germany, René Schappner, said Dusseldorf was an ideal city for the Hotel Indigo brand.

"Dusseldorf is an international business and financial centre, known for its trade and fashion fairs. The city is also known for its cultural offerings, including the Academy of Art and the NRW-Forum in art, architecture and design.

“Dusseldorf doesn’t have many boutique hotels, so it’s a great opportunity to introduce Hotel Indigo. Each hotel is uniquely designed to reflect the community, character and history of its surrounding area. Hotel Indigo Düsseldorf-Victoriaplatz’s design will be inspired by the numerous fashion stores and showrooms around Dusseldorf’s Fashion House and the Kaiserswerther Strasse.”

The signing of Hotel Indigo Düsseldorf-Victoriaplatz follows the recent opening of two Hotel Indigo properties in Berlin - Hotel Indigo Berlin-Centre Alexanderplatz and Hotel Indigo Berlin-Centre Hardenbergstrasse.

René Schappner said the secret to the success of Hotel Indigo is that it offers guests the individuality of a boutique hotel with the reassurance and reliability of a big hotel brand. The brand is popular with developers and owners because of its flexible approach to design, making it ideal for conversion properties, which are easier to finance than new builds and can be operational in a shorter period of time.

Every Hotel Indigo features a high quality bar and restaurant that is open to both guests and locals.  All Hotel Indigo properties in Europe offer free wi-fi throughout the hotel as a brand standard, plus 24 hour room service and access to a gym.

As at 30 June, there were 46 Hotel Indigo hotels around the world and 52 in the development pipeline, which will open in the next three to five years. Throughout Europe there are 9 Hotel Indigo hotels, with 11 more in the pipeline.
