Upscale Boutique Brand Hotel Indigo Celebrates 3 Year Anniversary in Greater China with 10 Projects

Shanghai – InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading international hotel companies, today announces that its Hotel Indigo brand is celebrating its third anniversary in Greater China by reaching a milestone in the market, with five hotels open and another five in the development pipeline. Since the launch of the brand in Asia Pacific in 2010, Hotel Indigo has experienced successful and rapid growth throughout the region.

In 2010, the Hotel Indigo Shanghai On the Bund, the first Hotel Indigo in Asia Pacific, was opened in Shanghai. The riverside property, with a view of the famous Pudong and historic Bund skyline, is acclaimed for its intimate service and unique, eclectic design combining historic Shanghai artefacts with contemporary Chinese components. Built on the success of this flagship property, in the last 3 years Hotel Indigo has added 4 hotels under the brand in Hong Kong, Tianjin, Xiamen and Lijiang, all with their own neighbourhood story to tell.
Each distinctive Hotel Indigo currently open across Greater China allows guests to enjoy a privileged up-close perspective of the character, culture and splendor of China’s most spellbinding as well as emerging destinations. The most recently opened, the Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town, is the first upscale boutique hotel in Lijiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in China’s south-western Yunnan province. The hotel takes inspiration from the tea-house trail linking Yunnan and Tibet, providing guests a truly exceptional experience, while also representing the brand’s entrance into China’s exotic, untapped markets.
Hotel Indigo also boasts another 5 hotels in the development pipeline, which will add a total of 721 rooms into the IHG system in Greater China:
- Hotel Indigo Kaohsiung Central Park, 150 rooms, to open in Q1 2015
- Hotel Indigo Nantong, 125 rooms, to open in Q1 2015
- Hotel Indigo Zhengzhou CBD, 136 rooms, to open in Q1 2016
- Hotel Indigo Chongqing Guanyinqiao, 130 rooms, to open in Q3 2016
- Hotel Indigo Tianjin Riverside, 180 rooms, to open in Q4 2017
The Hotel Indigo brand has already achieved great success and rapid growth worldwide, with 52 open hotels and 47 in the pipeline around the world. The openings and signings of Hotel Indigo in the Greater China market are a testament to the strength of IHG’s brands and reflect the company’s successful growth strategy in the region.
