IHG expands franchising in China with new signings for Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®) announced today the expansion of its franchise offer in Greater China with new signings for its world-renowned brands, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn.

At the South China roadshow, held at InterContinental Shenzhen, IHG signed 14 new franchise properties including Crowne Plaza Chengdu Longquan Yi, Holiday Inn & Suite Chengdu Longquan Yi, Holiday Inn Daocheng Yading, Holiday Inn Qinhuangdao Haigang, Holiday Inn Suihua and nine additional Holiday Inn Express properties in cities and tourism destinations including Chengdu, Shenzhen, Foshan, Yangjiang, Jiangmen, Jinjiang, Fuxian Lake, Lishui and Nanjing.

The signings marked a key milestone for the UK-based hospitality company’s growth in Greater China, its second largest and fastest growing market.

Based on the maturity of the industry and the sophistication of owners, IHG has decided now has come the right time to expand franchise model to cater for an evolving owner demand in the fast-developing Chinese hotel industry.

The latest franchise offering is an addition to IHG’s management model, which has enjoyed over three decades of operational excellence in China, and the Franchise Plus model for its Holiday Inn Express brand, which received immediate success since its launch in May 2016.

Kent Sun, Chief Development Officer, IHG Greater China, commented: “As a pioneer in the hotel industry, the development of our franchise offer demonstrates our ability to move at pace, continue to innovate and react to the changing needs of the market and owners, based on our global expertise and profound China insights.”

IHG stands out as one of the largest franchisors in the hotel industry with over 80% hotels operating under franchise model globally. The company has a strong track record and solid infrastructure in delivering high quality experiences for its guests and effective return on investment for business partners.

The Franchise Plus model for Holiday Inn Express, tailored for the Chinese market, is highly successful. Currently IHG have 124 Holiday Inn Express hotels open in the region, with another 166 in the development pipeline.

This offering has fuelled IHG’s quality growth in Greater China including expansion into untapped markets. IHG currently operates 380 hotels in Greater China, with another 334 hotels in development pipeline under 10 brands across luxury to mainstream segments.
