IHG opens Holiday Inn® hotel in historic downtown Lancaster
Holiday Inn Lancaster features innovative guest room design and expansive event and meeting space steps from the heart of Lancaster’s historic district
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®), one of the world's leading hotel companies, today announces the opening of the 216-room Holiday Inn® Lancaster hotel in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The hotel was developed by Meeder Development Corporation of Lancaster and is owned by Square Development LP, a partnership led by John Meeder and Sam Wilsker.
Located at 26 East Chestnut Street, Holiday Inn Lancaster features a full-service restaurant, The Imperial, and 19,000 square feet of event and meeting space. The 10-story hotel also features a 5,000-square-foot lobby, an indoor swimming pool, a 24-hour sundry shop, guest laundry facilities and a fitness center.

The hotel features the Holiday Inn brand’s H4 guest room design – a flexible solution that adapts to each guest’s individual needs as they change throughout their stay, allowing them to work or relax wherever and however they want and make the space truly their own. As part of this new design, the guest rooms will include:
- A welcome nook, which serves as a drop zone for guests to hang their coat, drop their keys and personal belongings and plug in their devices – much like they would an entryway or mudroom in their own home.
- An entirely new room type, the king bed with comfort hideaway, featuring a trundle-type bed, which doubles as a sofa during the day and can pull out into two twin beds at night. The room design is ideal for business travelers, serving as a separate place to work or relax and unwind, and families with kids and teens, giving each member of the family a comfortable place to sleep and play.
- A new moveable desk and more than five dedicated points of power throughout the room, designed with today’s travelers in mind, giving them the ability to work and play anywhere in the room.
The hotel, located just two blocks from Lancaster Convention Center, features a new restaurant, The Imperial, with an impressive street-front view on the corner of Queen and Chestnut Streets. The restaurant’s name pays homage to the historic hotel that stood on the site, where notable figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt gave speeches. The Imperial restaurant connects directly to the hotel’s lobby and incorporates over 35 different styles of light fixtures, with 26 original works of art designed by local artist and interior designer, Noelle Turco. The Imperial’s bright and bold food offering is designed to tap into the local restaurant scene and allow Holiday Inn guests to "eat where the locals eat.”
Honoring the hotel’s ties to Lancaster’s history, 28 historic black and white photos of local buildings and locations were recreated by hand to hang throughout the hotel. The paintings depict the Lancaster Train Station, the old Imperial Bar and Hotel, the Brunswick Hotel and numerous businesses, such as the six movie theaters that were once located at the 100 block of North Queen Street. There are also three full-size hand drawn Sanborn maps showing the location of buildings in Downtown Lancaster’s 100 block of North Queen Street in 1912.
The hotel’s 19,000 square feet of meeting and event space, The Imperial Ballrooms and Event Spaces, offer the atmosphere, amenities and prime location perfect for meetings, conventions, trade shows, weddings, and other special events in Lancaster. The largest spaces, The Imperial Suite, The Imperial Blue, and Imperial Grande, accommodate 100 to 300 guests and adjoin to a stunning Atrium that is perfect for additional event and pre-function space. Additionally, nine smaller spaces throughout the hotel can be booked for meetings, banquets, or seminars.
