Food waste is a significant environmental challenge for the hospitality sector. To help tackle this, IHG Hotels & Resorts partners with specialist organisations to divert edible, surplus food away from waste.
Rather than relying on a single global solution, we work with local partners in different markets, tailoring our approach to support local communities and improve operational efficiency. In some regions, our hotels offer freshly prepared, surplus food at reduced prices, while in others we focus on charitable redistribution through food banks and other non-profit organisations.
For example, we collaborate with organisations such as Goodr in the US and OzHarvest in Australia, collectively helping to deliver thousands of meals to communities across many markets. In the UK, our hotels connect with customers looking to purchase unsold surplus food, helping reduce waste while offering greater value. Building on this approach, we launched a partnership with Magic Bag across Greater China in 2025, which has now been adopted by more than 50 hotels and helped avoid more than 12 tonnes of food waste so far.
